A basic set of equipment once purchased can be used time and again for brewing. Often equipment for beer can also be used for wine making. So what are the basic’s?

Must be made out of food grade plastic, which will hold up to 40 pints. Will be used for initial 7 day ferment. |
Steriliser![]() |
It is essential that for every brew that every piece of equipment is thoroughly cleaned. |
Hydrometer![]() |
For testing completion of ferment. Readings taken before and after fermentation can be used to calculate alcohol content of the finished brew. |
Syphon set, including tubing and trap![]() |
For drawing off fermented beer from the bucket into either a pressurised barrel or beer bottles. |
Sugar and tap water![]() |
Ordinary granulated sugar 1 Kg OR 1 Kg Beer Kit Enhancer OR 1 Kg Brewing Sugar. |
A pressure barrel which will hold up to 5 Gallons (40 pints)![]() OR Beer Bottles with crown caps (and labels to impress friends) ![]() |
Both used to dispense the finished beer. If using beer bottles with crown caps, a capper will be required. |
